General Tieonchai Sirisumpan, known as the Father of Amateur MuayThai in the World, founded the International Amateur Muaythai Federation (IAMTF) in 1993.

Since 2003, the organization has operated under the name International Muaythai Federation (IMTF), removing the word "Amateur" and shifting its focus entirely to professional MuayThai competitions.

General Tieonchai Sirisumpan passed away in 2020.
